The Challenge

Third-party motor insurance is legally required in Uganda, yet a significant portion of vehicles on the road have lapsed policies — often because drivers simply forgot to renew. The consequences range from fines to serious financial exposure after an accident. MTP was built to close that gap.

The key challenge was reach: many vehicle owners, particularly boda boda riders and commercial drivers, do not have smartphones or reliable internet access. Any solution that only worked via a web app would miss exactly the people who needed it most.

What We Built

Vehicle registration & tracking Automated SMS reminders USSD interface Insurer partner portal Mobile money payment Admin reporting dashboard

Drivers register their vehicles and insurance details on the web or via USSD (no smartphone needed). The platform tracks expiry dates and automatically sends SMS reminders at 30 days, 7 days, and 1 day before expiry — with a direct link to renew through a partnered insurer.

Insurance partners get a portal showing renewal leads and confirmed policy updates. Payment is processed via mobile money, with instant confirmation sent to the driver. A compliance dashboard helps fleet operators manage multiple vehicles in one place.
