The Challenge
Thousands of SACCOs and informal money lenders across Uganda operate almost entirely on paper — ledgers, receipts, and manual interest calculations. This creates errors, slows down loan processing, and makes it nearly impossible to audit or scale. Zoya needed a platform that was powerful enough to replace paper entirely yet simple enough for staff with limited tech experience to use confidently.
We also had to accommodate multiple SACCO models — some with fixed monthly contributions, others with flexible deposits — and different lending rules for each organisation.
What We Built
The platform handles the full member journey: onboarding, savings deposits, loan applications, approval workflows, disbursement, repayment tracking, and penalty calculations. Interest is calculated automatically based on each organisation's configured rules.
Loan officers get a clean dashboard showing at-risk loans, upcoming repayments, and member balances. SMS alerts go out automatically for payment due dates, confirmation of deposits, and loan approvals — keeping members informed without requiring a smartphone.
